Süleymaniye Hamam

The Süleymaniye Hamam is defined by its series of cascading domes and arched windows, which allow shafts of daylight to pierce the interior steam. Commissioned by Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent and completed in fifteen fifty-seven, the building was designed by the architect Mimar Sinan as a functional part of the larger mosque complex nearby. Because it was located near historical foundries, locals once referred to it as the metalworkers' bath.
