St Mary-le-Bow Church

St Mary-le-Bow rises from Cheapside with a stone spire that serves as a landmark for the City of London. Originally founded in ten eighty by Lanfranc, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the church takes its name from the distinctive Norman stone arches, or bows, that support its early crypt. After the Great Fire of London destroyed the medieval structure in sixteen sixty-six, Sir Christopher Wren rebuilt the church between sixteen seventy and sixteen eighty, creating one of his most ambitious and expensive projects.
