Ford’s Theatre is recognizable by its brick facade on Tenth Street Northwest, which features several altered window openings where brick colors differ due to repairs. Originally built in eighteen thirty-three as the First Baptist Church, the structure was purchased by John T. Ford and converted into a theater in eighteen sixty-one. After a fire destroyed the earlier building, he had the current theater erected in eighteen sixty-three.
