The Friendship Archway spans H Street at 7th Street Northwest, recognizable by its seven pagoda-style roofs covered in seven thousand glazed tiles. This ceremonial gate, or paifang, stands forty-seven feet tall and seventy-five feet wide, adorned with two hundred eighty-four dragon motifs. Designed by local architect Alfred H. Liu, the structure was dedicated on November 20, 1986, to commemorate the sister-city relationship between Washington and Beijing.
