The bronze figures of a tortoise and a hare sit near the Boylston Street side of Copley Square. Sculpted by local artist Nancy Schön, these two animals are cast in bronze and commemorate the participants of the Boston Marathon. The artwork was commissioned by the Boston Art Commission and dedicated in nineteen ninety-six to mark the one hundredth anniversary of the race.
