Monument Square

The Bunker Hill Monument, a two hundred twenty-one foot tall granite obelisk, dominates the center of Monument Square. It marks the summit of Breed's Hill, the actual site of the June seventeen seventy-five Battle of Bunker Hill. The monument is framed by an iron fence and surrounded by an avenue of nineteenth-century residential buildings, including homes designed in the Greek Revival and Italianate styles.
