Mellon Institute

The Mellon Institute is defined by a massive, wrap-around colonnade of sixty-two limestone columns that occupy an entire city block on Fifth Avenue. These monolithic pillars, each reaching forty-two feet in height, are among the largest of their kind in the world. Designed by architect Benno Janssen and completed in nineteen thirty-seven, the structure draws inspiration from the Parthenon in Athens and the United States Treasury Building in Washington, D.C.
