The Théâtre des Élèves pour la Danse de l'Opéra once stood along the Boulevard du Temple, a stretch of the city historically known as the Boulevard du Crime. Built between seventeen seventy-seven and seventeen seventy-eight, this venue was designed specifically to showcase the young talent of the dance conservatory at the Académie Royale de Musique. It opened in January seventeen seventy-nine with a pantomime performance featuring eighty students, but the venture struggled financially from the start.
