Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Belleville

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Belleville is marked by its two prominent, fifty-seven-meter-tall spires that rise above the surrounding streets. Constructed between eighteen fifty-four and eighteen fifty-nine, this building was the final and most complete project of architect Jean-Baptiste Lassus, a leading figure in the nineteenth-century French Neo-Gothic movement. It stands as an early Parisian example of this revival style, designed to serve a rapidly growing local population that had expanded from a small village into a major district before its annexation into the capital.
