Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois

The Church of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois sits directly across from the Louvre Palace, anchored by a bell tower with a Romanesque base that dates back to the twelfth century. This structure, which evolved through the sixteenth century, served for generations as the primary parish for the residents of the Louvre. Because of its proximity to the royal residence, it became the burial site for many architects, painters, and sculptors who worked on the palace, earning it the reputation as a place for artists and men of talent.
