La Gaîté Lyrique

The building at three bis rue Papin presents a grand nineteenth-century facade that contrasts with the contemporary digital culture housed inside. Originally inaugurated in eighteen sixty-two, it was designed by architects Jacques-Ignace Hittorff and Alphonse Cusin as a lavish theater during the era of Baron Haussmann’s urban renovations. At its height, the venue served as a premier stage for operettas and was famously directed by Jacques Offenbach between eighteen seventy-three and eighteen seventy-four.
