Carmel de la Place Maubert

The site of the former Carmel de la Place Maubert is marked today by the police station for the fifth arrondissement, tucked just below the Rue de la Montagne-Sainte-Geneviève. In the fourteenth century, this was a sprawling monastery complex of the Carmelite order, an institution that defined the intellectual landscape of this part of Paris for hundreds of years.
