Fontaine de l'Abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Prés

The Fontaine de l'Abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Prés is identified by a stone structure featuring a decorative mask, known as a mascaron, which once poured water for the local neighborhood. Built between seventeen fifteen and seventeen seventeen, it was originally one of a pair of matching fountains located at the intersection of the rue Sainte-Marguerite and rue Childebert. These fountains were engineered by Jean Beausire, the chief of public works under Louis XIV, to provide drinking water to the residents living around the ancient abbey.
