Théâtre Déjazet

The Théâtre Déjazet is the only theater surviving on the Boulevard du Temple, a street once so packed with stages and performers that it earned the nickname Boulevard du Crime. While the nineteenth-century urban renovations led by Georges-Eugène Haussmann cleared away the neighboring venues, this building remained, preserving a slice of the city’s historic theatrical district. Its façade at forty-one Boulevard du Temple marks the site of a venue that has operated through many names and forms since eighteen fifty-one.
