Musée des Monuments français (1795–1816)

The Musée des Monuments français occupied the former convent of the Petits-Augustins, characterized by its site on the Left Bank of the Seine. Established in seventeen ninety-five, the museum was the second national institution in France following the opening of the Louvre. It served as a sanctuary for architectural fragments and sculptures salvaged from religious sites and royal tombs that faced destruction during the French Revolution.
