Le Suquet

other

Le Suquet stands apart from the rest of Cannes as a steep, winding hill of narrow cobblestone streets, distinct from the flat, modern coastline below. As the city’s oldest district, this neighborhood grew around a hilltop site where Ligurian tribes settled in antiquity and medieval monks later constructed a fortress to control the bay. Its most prominent feature is the cluster of historic stone buildings at the summit, including a twelfth-century castle that now houses the Museum of World Explorations and the fifteenth-century church of Notre-Dame d’Espérance.
