The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès is defined by its wide, red-carpeted concrete steps that anchor the western end of the Boulevard de la Croisette. This massive, six-story structure of glass and white concrete serves as the primary venue for the Cannes Film Festival and a host of international trade events. It opened in December nineteen eighty-two, designed by architects Sir Hubert Bennett and François Druet, to replace the aging municipal facilities that had previously struggled to contain the growing global reach of the festival.
