The street signs for Rue Hélène Vagliano are easily identified by the name of the woman they honor, a central figure in the local resistance against the occupation during the Second World War. She moved to Cannes in nineteen twenty-four and lived with her family at the Villa Champfleuri. While she was known for her athletic interests and charity work in the years before the war, she became a dedicated member of the Tartane-Masséna intelligence network and served as a social services organizer for the families of prisoners.
