The Musée des explorations du monde stands atop the hill of Le Suquet, identified by the square medieval watchtower that rises above the stone walls of an eleventh-century castle complex. Originally built by monks from the Lérins Islands to provide a defensive site on the mainland, the structure now houses collections of primitive art, Mediterranean antiquities, and musical instruments from across the globe.
