The Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke holds roughly two thousand plaster casts of Greek and Roman sculptures, making it one of the four largest collections of its kind in Germany. You can identify the building by its location within the House of Cultural Institutes, where it shares space with several other state institutions. Founded in eighteen sixty-nine by the archaeologist Heinrich von Brunn, the museum began as a teaching collection for the University of Munich, designed to help students study the history of art by comparing casts of masterpieces that are otherwise scattered across museums worldwide.
