Diporto

Diporto is a basement-level tavern located at the corner of Sokratous and Theatrou Streets, distinguished from the surrounding shops by the total absence of a sign. The name itself, which translates to two doors, refers to the two entrances that lead down into this subterranean space. Operating in the same location since eighteen eighty-seven, it remains tucked away beneath the street level, a cavernous room defined by its concrete-block floor and a wall lined with massive wine barrels that are still used to store the house retsina.
