The Athens Conservatoire is immediately recognizable by its low, sprawling modernist profile on Rigillis Street, a structure defined by the stark, clean lines of the Bauhaus style. Designed by architect Ioannis Despotopoulos, who had studied under the movement's founder Walter Gropius, it was intended to be the centerpiece of a grand cultural complex that never fully materialized.
