Raoul Wallenberg Holocaust Memorial Park

The Raoul Wallenberg Holocaust Memorial Park is located in the rear courtyard of the Dohány Street Synagogue. Its most recognizable feature is a large, silver-colored metal sculpture of a weeping willow, created by Hungarian artist Imre Varga in nineteen ninety-one. This tree, often interpreted as an upturned menorah, has thousands of metallic leaves engraved with the names of victims of the Holocaust. The courtyard itself serves as a site of remembrance for the more than four hundred thousand Hungarian Jews who were murdered during the Second World War.
