Shoes on the Danube Bank

Sixty pairs of iron shoes rest along the edge of the stone embankment on the Pest side of the Danube. These shoes, fashioned in the styles of the nineteen-forties, include boots, heeled shoes, and tiny pairs for children, all set directly into the ground. They appear as if their owners have only just stepped out of them and left them scattered on the riverbank.
