The Gresham Palace is an Art Nouveau masterpiece easily identified by its symmetrical façade, intricate wrought-iron peacock gates, and the two copper turrets crowning its roof along the Danube. Built between nineteen oh four and nineteen oh six for the London-based Gresham Life Assurance Company, it was designed by architects Zsigmond Quittner and József Vágó. The building was created as a headquarters and luxury residence for the company’s senior staff, named for the sixteenth-century English financier Sir Thomas Gresham.
