Elisabeth Bridge

The Elisabeth Bridge is easily identified by its slender, modern white profile and its minimalist cable-stayed design, which sets it apart from the ornate, nineteenth-century bridges nearby. Spanning the narrowest section of the Danube in Budapest, this bridge connects the Pest side at March Fifteenth Square to the Buda side at the foot of Gellért Hill. It is named in honor of Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Queen of Hungary, a figure deeply admired by the Hungarian public, whose bronze statue rests today in a small garden near the bridge's Buda entrance.
