Fisherman's Bastion

Fisherman’s Bastion is defined by seven white stone towers with pointed, hat-like roofs that rise above the edge of Castle Hill. While its turreted parapets and grand staircases suggest a medieval fortress, the structure was actually built between eighteen ninety-five and nineteen oh two as a ceremonial lookout terrace. Architect Frigyes Schulek designed the monument to honor the one thousandth anniversary of the Hungarian state, choosing a Neo-Romanesque style to evoke the era of Hungary’s first king, Stephen the First.
