The Fountain of King Matthias is a monumental, neo-Baroque bronze sculpture set against the northern facade of the Buda Castle complex. It depicts a royal hunting party, with King Matthias Corvinus standing triumphantly on a rocky ledge, crossbow in hand, surrounded by his hounds, a slain stag, and his hunting companions. Sculptor Alajos Stróbl began work on this complex in eighteen ninety-nine, following an approval from Emperor Franz Joseph, and the completed fountain was officially inaugurated in nineteen oh four.
