The Budapest Castle Hill Funicular consists of two stepped, wooden-paneled cars that climb the steep hillside at an angle of nearly thirty-two degrees. It stretches ninety-five meters from Clark Ádám Square to the Buda Castle grounds above. This rail system was the second of its kind in Europe when it opened in eighteen seventy. Count Ödön Széchenyi commissioned the project to provide a faster route for people traveling to the ministries and theaters located at the top of the hill.
