Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi

Toorji Ka Jhalra Bavdi is an eighteenth-century stepwell, defined by its intricate, symmetric stone carvings and a deep, multi-level descent of stairs built from rose-red sandstone. Commissioned in the seventeen-forties by the queen-consort of Maharaja Abhay Singh, the structure reflects a regional tradition where royal women led the creation of essential public waterworks. It reaches over two hundred feet deep, designed to provide the arid city with a reliable water source that remained accessible even as the water table fluctuated.
