Jagmandir Island Palace sits directly upon the waters of Lake Pichola, identifiable by the eight life-sized stone elephants that flank its jetty. This three-story structure of yellow sandstone and marble was commissioned in the early seventeenth century by Maharana Karan Singh to serve as a secure retreat. Its most noted guest was the Mughal Prince Khurram, who sought asylum here in sixteen twenty-three during his rebellion against his father, Emperor Jahangir.
