City Palace

The City Palace rises above the eastern shore of Lake Pichola as a sprawling, granite and marble ridge of towers, balconies, and cupolas. It is the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, built over four centuries by successive rulers of the Mewar kingdom, starting with Maharana Udai Singh the second in fifteen fifty-nine. What appears as one massive, homogeneous structure from the exterior is actually an agglomeration of eleven individual palaces, each integrated over generations.
