Jagdish Temple

The Jagdish Temple rises above the old city of Udaipur, defined by a pyramidal spire that reaches seventy-nine feet into the sky. Built in sixteen fifty-one under the reign of Maharana Jagat Singh the First, the structure stands on a high stone terrace accessible by a steep flight of thirty-two marble steps. Two massive stone elephants guard the entrance, where the exterior walls are covered in detailed carvings of dancers, musicians, and celestial figures.
