Gadiya Devra

Gadiya Devra is a landmark that identifies a specific road in Udaipur, often recognized by travelers and locals as Gadiya Devra Marg. The name itself reflects a deep connection to the history of the Gadia Lohars, a community of nomadic blacksmiths who have long been associated with the Mewar region. Tradition holds that these artisans were once the trusted metalworkers for the army of Maharana Pratap. Following the capture of the Chittorgarh fort by the Mughal emperor Akbar in fifteen sixty-eight, the community reportedly took a solemn oath to lead a nomadic life in their bullock carts, vowing never to settle permanently until their ancestral lands were reclaimed.
