The Jahangir Palace, or Jahangiri Mahal, is defined by its massive red sandstone exterior and the ornate, heavy stone brackets that support its projecting eaves. Though its name links it to Emperor Jahangir, the palace was commissioned by his father, Akbar, likely between fifteen sixty-five and fifteen seventy. It stands as the largest residence within the Agra Fort and was primarily designed as a zenana, or private quarters for the women of the royal household, including Akbar’s Rajput wives.
