Gulab Khana is a historic area within the Kala Mahal neighborhood of Agra. Its name translates from Persian and Urdu as the Rose-Water House, a title that points back to the era when the Mughal Empire prioritized the cultivation of fragrant flowers and the production of perfumes. During the seventeenth century, court records show that rose petals were gathered in vast quantities—measured in tens of maunds—and sent to facilities like this for distillation into precious attar.
