Sapporo Factory is distinguished by its collection of vintage red-brick buildings and a tall, black chimney inscribed with the name Sapporo Beer. It occupies the site of the Kaitakushi Beer Brewery, which opened on September twenty-third, eighteen seventy-six, as the first facility in Japan to produce German-style beer using entirely Japanese expertise.
