Tanukikoji Shopping Street

Tanukikoji Shopping Street is a covered pedestrian arcade that stretches about nine hundred meters across the center of Sapporo. It is one of the oldest shopping districts in Hokkaido, with a history that began in the late eighteen sixties when restaurants and merchant shops started to cluster between the second and third blocks. Today, the street consists of seven connected sections, each shielded by a high roof that allows for year-round activity regardless of the city’s heavy snow or summer heat.
