Bust of Dr. William S. Clark

The bronze bust of William Smith Clark occupies a stone pedestal within the grounds of Hokkaido University. It depicts the head and shoulders of the man who served as the first vice-principal of the Sapporo Agricultural College, the institution that later became this university. The pedestal bears an inscription of his parting words to his students: "Boys, be ambitious!"
