Furukawa Memorial Hall

The Furukawa Memorial Hall is a two-story wooden building on the Sapporo campus of Hokkaido University, recognizable by its distinct French Renaissance-style architecture and symmetrical facade. Constructed in nineteen oh nine, it was originally built to serve as a forestry lecture hall for the Sapporo Agricultural College, which later evolved into Hokkaido University. The project was funded by a donation from the Furukawa Mining Company, a prominent industrial conglomerate of the Meiji era, which is why the building bears the name of the family that led the company.
