Sapporo TV Tower

The Sapporo TV Tower stands at the eastern end of Odori Park as a steel-framed sentinel, marked by the large digital clocks embedded into its four sides. Completed in nineteen fifty-seven, the tower was designed by the architect Tachu Naito, who became known as the father of Japanese towers for his role in shaping the skylines of post-war cities like Tokyo and Nagoya. While the structure once served as a primary transmission hub for television signals across the region, its antennas were moved to a nearby mountaintop in nineteen sixty-five to better reach the growing number of households in the area.
