Hōhei Kan

Hōhei Kan is a white wooden building with a distinctive, vivid ultramarine blue border along its walls. Completed in eighteen eighty, this is the oldest wooden hotel building in Japan. It was originally built by the Hokkaido Development Commission near Odori Park to house visiting engineers and officials, but it gained immediate prominence when Emperor Meiji stayed there for four days in eighteen eighty-one.
