Nishinomaru Garden

Nishinomaru Garden is marked by a sweeping, six-and-a-half-hectare lawn that offers an unobstructed view of the Osaka Castle main tower rising above the moat. This space occupies the former western bailey of the castle, a site once home to the residence of Kita-no-Mandokoro, the wife of the castle’s founder, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Following Hideyoshi, the area became a strategic defensive position for the Tokugawa shogunate, which constructed heavy stone-walled storehouses and turrets around its perimeter.
