Sengan-yagura Turret

The Sengan-yagura Turret stands out for its high, white-plastered walls and dark tiled roof, a two-story structure perched firmly on the stone ramparts of Osaka Castle. Constructed in sixteen twenty by the architect Kobori Enshu, this corner turret served as a strategic guardian for the castle’s main Otemon Gate, defending the entrance from northern approaches with lattice windows and iron-plated shooting ports. It remains one of the oldest buildings within the castle grounds today.
