The Jardin Majorelle is distinguished by its vivid, cobalt-blue buildings, a striking shade of pigment that the French artist Jacques Majorelle patented and named after himself. He arrived in Marrakech in nineteen seventeen to recover from poor health and eventually spent nearly forty years transforming a four-acre plot on the edge of a palm grove into his own private botanical laboratory. Majorelle filled the grounds with exotic plants from five continents, creating a sanctuary he described as his most beautiful work of art.
