other

Gasthuismolensteeg takes its name from the Saint Elisabeth Hospital mill, which stood on the city wall here during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries to grind grain for the institution. The street now serves as one of the nine small thoroughfares that make up the area known as the Nine Streets, which run between the major canals of the Amsterdam canal belt.
