The Papeneiland

Café 't Papeneiland occupies a distinctive seventeenth-century canal house on the corner of Prinsengracht and Brouwersgracht, easily identified by its stepped gable façade. Built in sixteen forty-two, the building is one of the oldest brown cafés in Amsterdam, characterized by dark wooden interiors, antique Delft tiles, and a long history of family stewardship. It remains a national monument, standing at a junction where the waters of the Prinsengracht and Brouwersgracht meet.
