park garden

This latticework structure, built from totara, kauri, and rimu wood, spans the Queens Drive entrance at a forty-five-degree angle. Captain Archibald Campbell Turner designed the arch in nineteen hundred to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York, who later became King George the Fifth and Queen Mary. It was an ambitious project for the time, featuring electric lights that were only recently introduced to the area.
