The Te Arawa Soldiers Memorial stands in the Government Gardens, distinguished by its Gothic design crafted from Sydney gritstone and Belgian marble. It is one of the few monuments in New Zealand specifically erected by Māori to honor those who fought and died in the First World War. The memorial features a stone statue of the ancestor Rangitihi and is surrounded by bronze pou representing the eight children known as the Eight Beating Hearts of Te Arawa.
