The Gardener's Cottage is a small, late Victorian villa recognizable by its weatherboard cladding, timber framing, and corrugated iron roof. Built in eighteen ninety-nine, it is the oldest surviving building within the Rotorua Government Gardens. While its primary purpose was to house the head gardener, the cottage eventually provided living space for various employees of the nearby sanatorium, including a head attendant and a masseur.
